As one such post went viral, even the 19-year-old was confused about what she had said and what the social media page wrote.

While Gauff looks up to Williams, the WTA legend herself approves of the young American sensation. Gauff created history after winning the US Open, and the 23-time grand slam champion praised her to carry on her legacy.

The 19-year-old star wants to reach as high as Serena Williams did in her career and aims to surpass her. Knowing her love for the 23-time grand slam champion, a spoof account “quoted” Gauff talking about Williams’ iconic yellow outfit, consisting of a yellow crop top and a matching skirt. It also mentioned her wanting to channel her “inner Serena”, further calling her “an inspiration on and off the court”.

Reading the post, Gauff, like many others on ‘X’, believed she had said a quote for a moment. “You had me fooled😭 I even sent the tweet to my agent and I was like “I don’t remember ever saying this?” nothing wrong with it ya’ll know I love Serena it wasn’t inspired by her kit. she is a fashion queen tho!! I just literally thought I was going crazy for two mins hahaha😂”.

The 23-time grand slam champion was the only American teenager before Gauff to win the US Open, and she was happy her legacy was being carried forward by the 19-year-old. She took to her Instagram page to praise Gauff and shared the posts of her lifting the trophy to congratulate her victory.
