Is Coco Gauff being too realistic, or is she just showing maturity beyond her years?

Coco Gauff is gearing up for the Paris Olympics, ready to leave no stone unturned. The American celebrity, who missed Tokyo 2020 owing to COVID-19, is expected to compete for the first time in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. She recently made her plans public in advance of the event, so her objectives for representing her nation at the major event are evident.

Less than two weeks before the big event, the 20-year-old American tennis player shared her thoughts on participating in the Olympics as well as representing her country on the big stage in a WTA video. She said, “It’s something that I’ve been wanting to do since I was a kid. I have the opportunity to represent my country, it means a lot. Now I’m really just taking in the moments and being grateful for every day that I get to spend on Court and every day that I get to be alive in general.”

The World No. 2 lost a heartbreaking match at the Wimbledon Championships in the fourth round against her countrywoman Emma Navarro in a straight-set loss. Gauff’s lowest Grand Slam performance in the previous 12 months was this one, having reached the last 4 at both the Australian and French Opens. The American champion is full of plans for her next adventure at the multi-sport event in Paris, even with this setback.

Further, she added, “I could probably go into it, making it a big deal – which is a big deal – but I think I play my best tennis when I try to minimize the moment as much as possible. So, I’m just going to enjoy it and you know I think it’s one of those things that, win or lose, will always be a positive experience for me. Even if I could experience the biggest disappointment there I still got to compete in the Olympics, so I’m just going to try to enjoy it.”

At the 2024 Olympics in Paris, American tennis players Gauff and Taylor Fritz will captain Team USA. The squad also includes top players like Chris Eubanks, Tommy Paul, and Jessica Pegula. With this strong team, they hope to grab the chance to win a gold medal for their country.

Mike Bryan, who medalled at the London Olympics with his twin brother Bob, speculated in an interview that Coco Gauff would benefit from the Olympic red clay surface. Bryan is impressed by Gauff’s outstanding play from last year, as he advanced to the Roland Garros semifinals and kept a solid 35-14 win-loss record. He remarked, “She’s going to be good on the clay, I think that’s maybe one of her favorite surfaces, so I think she’s got something to prove. It’s going to be fun to watch her compete at the Olympics.”
