Americans are having a ball at the Australian Open this weekend! First Madison Keys thrilled fans with her maiden Grand Slam title yesterday after outplaying Aryna Sabalenka in a gripping final. But the excitement has not ended there— Now! Taylor Townsend has delivered another American triumph but this time on the doubles stage. Top seeds Taylor Townsend and Katerina Siniakova (Czechia) edged past No.3 seeds Hsieh Su-wei and Jelena Ostapenko, clinching the women’s doubles title in a dramatic 6-2, 6-7(4), 6-3 victory which saw the match stretched to 2 hours and 27 minutes. Taylor Townsend’s victory wasn’t the only moment of joy on the court! The 2023 US Open champion Coco Gauff looked enthralled and delivered a two-word salute for the newly crowned AO Champions.
Coco Gauff, who has hailed her compatriots in the past, turned to Instagram to celebrate in the most heartfelt way! She shared a touching story featuring Taylor Townsend and Kateřina Siniaková embracing on the court, with the bold text “CHAMPIONS” illuminated across the image. Her caption? A joyous “Yess Girlsss!” A more of a salute to new champions.
But Gauff didn’t stop there—her next story resonated with inspiration. She shared a powerful quote from Townsend herself: “This is a really great tournament for Americans and for girls that look like me. It shows this can help inspire a little girl from the South side of Chicago, grow up in Atlanta and now in Melbourne win the Australian Open”

Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend’s doubles journey has been nothing short of sensational! Their story began at Wimbledon last year, where they claimed the title in their debut Grand Slam appearance as a team—an incredible moment that also marked Townsend’s first Slam victory as a pro. But they didn’t stop there. The duo stormed through the 2024 US Open, reaching the semifinals and proving their partnership was no fluke. Now with the 2nd Major title together they have improved their record to 15-1. “I’m really enjoying being able to have this success with her because doubles is a partnership, and we’re a team. We win together; we lose together,” said Townsend after winning her 2 doubles Grand Slam.
Coco Gauff might not have had the best start to her season, bowing out of the Australian Open with a quarterfinal loss to Paula Badosa. But the young star has shown nothing but class, taking to social media to celebrate her compatriots’ successes!
Her heartfelt reaction to Taylor Townsend’s win wasn’t a one-off. Just yesterday, Gauff shared a congratulatory Instagram story for the women’s singles champion, Madison Keys, writing, “So deserveddddd!! madisonkeys.”
And now moving on to the court for the American; she has had a bit of a roller-coaster in early 2025.

Coco Gauff incurs a mixed start to 2025
The year 2025 has been a bit up and down for Coco Gauff thus far! The first major highlight for her came in the United Cup, where she spearheaded Team USA to a golden victory against Poland, defeating World No. 2 Iga Swiatek, playing in straight sets. However, her 2025 Australian Open dream run came to an abrupt halt in the quarterfinals when, after a nine-match winning streak, she lost to Spain’s Paula Badosa. The 11th-seeded Badosa claimed a 7-5, 6-4 victory, thanks to Gauff’s 41 unforced errors and six double faults. Coming into the match, Gauff held an even 3-3 record in head-to-heads with Badosa, making this loss even more heartbreaking.
But before losing to Badosa, Gauff had given commanding performances at the Melbourne major. She steamrolled her first match against compatriot Sofia Kenin, destroyed Jodie Burrage from Britain in the second round, and continued with a defeat of Leylah Fernandez.

The fourth round brought her biggest challenge — a nail-biter against 2021 Olympic gold medallist Belinda Bencic! The Swiss ace snatched the first set, but Gauff roared back to win a 5-7, 6-2, 6-1 victory.
Although the American hasn’t had the best run at the Australian Open, the tenacious 2024 WTA Finals champion still has three more chances at Grand Slam glory. With her eye on clinching her second major title since the 2023 US Open, the big question remains — will she do it? Only time will tell!
