The news of Aryna Sabalenka’s former boyfriend, Konstantin Koltsov’s death, sent a shockwave through the entire tennis community. At the same time, the media as well as the public have been too eager to dig into the private life of the Belarusian tennis star, as it also recently prompted Coco Gauff to issue a strong message.

After there were rumors about Sabalenka withdrawing from the ongoing Miami Open, the tournament’s organizers confirmed that the current number 2 player had not expressed any such intentions and was ‘intending to play.’ When asked about her Belarusian colleague’s decision to participate in the WTA 1000 event, Gauff recently urged others to respect Sabalenka’s privacy during this difficult phase.

In her pre-tournament press conference at the Miami Open, the American tennis prodigy was asked about her ‘thoughts’ on the Sabalenka situation, as she will be playing in the tournament after her former boyfriend’s sudden passing. Gauff answered by saying, “I don’t have any thoughts on it, I think I just offered her my condolences through a text message, and, um, you know, I don’t think people should dig into whether or why she is playing or whether she plays.”

Not just the American player, but the 2-time singles Grand Slam champion herself has also requested the public to respect her privacy during this difficult phase.
