The 2024 season brought good times for plenty of WTA stars, offering a great opportunity to push their numbers. While recent events have been challenging for a few players, Marta Kostyuk, on this note, gave signs of holding grudges against Coco Gauff. Kostyuk faced the cameras to give out names that she thinks are the top competitors on the WTA list. While the tennis star omitted Gauff’s name from her list, it suggested that she still hasn’t forgotten her defeat in Melbourne.

Ukrainian tennis star Marta Kostyuk recently revealed her top three competitors in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA). While the 21-year-old gave out the names that needed to be kept a watch on, she snubbed Coco Gauff by not mentioning her name. Kostyuk mentioned, “For me, it stays the same. Iga, Aryna, & Rybakina. I think they’re the most consistent anyways.”

Along with giving out the names, she also explained how the calendar can be tiring for players. “Of course, everyone gets tired, it’s a very difficult calendar… especially this year with the Olympics. But I think if they’re fresh, I think these 3… but they’re not fresh every week.. so that’s the key,” she added.

Despite Gauff’s significant presence in the WTA top rankers and her recent victory over Kostyuk, the Ukrainian player’s priority list showed her ignorance of Gauff’s achievements and signs of being affected by the match they played back in Melbourne.

Coco Gauff’s lack of satisfaction despite her win against Kotsyuk

The match between Coco Gauff and Marta Kostyuk was not at all a one-sided game. While both the players failed to be on top of their potential, they pulled the game for a long three-hour eight minutes, ending with a three-setter victory for the young American. Gauff, nevertheless, powered through with a 7-6 (6), 6-7 (3), 6-2 win, taking her to the semi-finals, against the defending champion Aryna Sabalenka.

Gauff, who thought she could do a lot better than how she performed, said, “Today was definitely a C game. Didn’t play my best tennis, but really proud that I was able to get through.” The tennis star also analyzed her shortcomings, “Problem-solving is tennis. Today was frustrating because I knew how I needed to play, I just couldn’t execute. Eventually, I was able to find it, which is what I’m proud of,” she added.
