Jessica Pegula and Coco Gauff are the two current best American players in the WTA Tour. They have maintained their top 10 ranking and managed to seal a spot in the WTA Finals. They managed to do the same last year in both singles and doubles. However, their run last year could not have gone worse. They could not win any match in singles or doubles and left the tournament saddened. Can they make a difference this time around?

Now, back in the Finals, they will be looking to create new memories in the championship. Both players have improved a lot, and this season has been a big boost for them. Presently, the only question is, can they replace the memories of utter defeat with memories of triumph?

The 19-year-old American is the one looking at a resounding run at the WTA Finals. She did not start 2023 with much to look forward to. But when the American tournaments rolled around after Wimbledon, she became a completely different player. She won three tournaments, including a grand slam, and jumped up to rank 3.

Coco Gauff couldn’t continue her winning streak in the China Open, but she still managed an impressive result as she played till the semifinal. Her new coaching team of Pere Riba and Brad Gilbert is helping her achieve better results. Not only does she have a higher chance of winning matches, but there is also a great likelihood that she could reach the final in Cancun.

Jessica Pegula

Pegula, unlike Gauff, had a strong start to the 2023 season. She played in the quarterfinal of two slams. Along with it, she also reached the semifinal of two Masters tournaments and won the Canadian Open this year. Her win came as a dominant display of tennis as she won the tournament with a bagel. However, her season has also had its fair share of devastating moments.

But for now, Pegula is coming into the WTA Finals carrying great momentum from her Korea Open win. She won the championship with only one set dropped, and it served as a boost after a round 2 exit from the China Open. Her matches in the WTA Finals have already begun, and the 29-year-old American star has already broken the record by winning her first bout. Now, the question remains: Can she continue this momentum to find herself in the final stages? The answer to that will be seen in the next few days.

Their singles stint is something they are quite confident about at the moment. But the two players have also practiced and fought hard to be the number 1 team in doubles. They played in the semifinal of two slams, in the final of Madrid Open and the Italian Open. But before that, they won the Miami Open, their third Masters title. In doubles, they are also looking quite strong, and there’s a great chance that they could be the team that plays in the final. What are your thoughts? Do comment below!
