What is a tennis star’s secret to success? If it’s Coco Gauff, the answer might not be what you think! Get ready for a surprise revelation from the American tennis player, who is ready with a new resolution list in the middle of the year. But better late than never. Let’s take a look at the 20-year-old player’s “in and out” list, which might be relatable to us as well.
Coco Gauff’s season this year has not been entirely fruitful, with only one singles title (at ASB Classic) so far. Elimination from the Round of 16 match at Wimbledon must have added to her disappointment. But thankfully, Gauff has mastered the art of getting over disappointing losses and being optimistic about her future. And her to-do list from a TikTok video points to it vividly. Attending book clubs remains at the top of that list. It seems that the reigning U.S. Open champion, who previously spoke about her reading challenge with her boyfriend, has no intention of losing her habit of reading. But below that, there is another unique skill she wants to acquire, “trying new recipes.”
Gauff might be the brand ambassador of Barilla (a brand of pasta) but now she wants to learn more recipes than just pasta. She once described the process of her cooking pasta, stating, “You need the focus and patience to see through the whole recipe you’re making. One mistake can cost you. If you’re relaxed, you’re able to have more fun with it and have the confidence to add your own twist on dishes.”

Well, soon, there will be more recipes on that list. Next up on her list is a dessert called “naked smoothies,” which she wants to make with naked juice, a brand that she herself promotes. Along with that, Gauff feels a skincare routine is a must, which is next on the list. But, wait, it’s not over yet. The semifinalist of the French Open, who appreciated the film “Challengers” earlier this year, wants to enjoy “going to the movies,” too!

While these are the “ins” in her list, the “outs” list is also long. Topping it, there are “uncomfy jeans” and following it is a habit we all are aware of – “procrastination.” Along with it, “early mornings, phone calls” and “skipping meals” are also not on her wishlist for this year. But when it comes to her goal for the future in terms of tennis, Coco Gauff has a different outlook.
Coco Gauff speaks on her strategies for improvement in tennis
When Emma Navarro defeated Gauff at Wimbledon, the World No. 2 did not break down but focused on her scope of improvement. With the Olympics knocking at the door (July 26), the 20-year-old wants to leave no stone unturned in her attempt to win a gold medal. “I’m still going to look at this match. I have to look at it if I want to improve not only for the Olympics but also for the rest of the season and seasons beyond. I think I’ll maybe not watch it until after the tournament’s over just for the mind.”

At the Tokyo Olympics of 2020, Coco Gauff could not perform after testing positive for COVID. However, this time, she desires to bring a double dose of energy to the Games. And she knows that the competition will be tougher. But she intends to learn from her sour experience at Wimbledon, making it a weapon to learn more about her own game. “It’s not going to be the first or last time that a player plays a great match against me, and I have to figure out when those moments happen how to raise my level,” Gauff said after her Wimbledon loss.
Coco Gauff is on a journey of self-exploration, and her resolutions act as a blueprint to improve more and more.
