The former tennis player started playing with her younger sister Jeanne Evert Dubin, who passed away from cancer two years ago. Evert recently revealed in a tearful statement that she still misses her sister every day.

Additionally, the 18-time Grand Slam champion had her illness diagnosed in January of this year. Despite this, the tennis legend has recovered from the deadly disease after months of rigorous treatment.

The former tennis star retweeted a picture of herself and her younger sister from their formative years in tennis. The picture had both Chris and Jeane with their classic tennis rackets. Back in 1972, the elder sister, Chris, won the inaugural year-end championship known as Virginia Slims Championships.

The 18-time Grand Slam champion wrote, “RIP my sweet sister.. I think about you every day…” sharing that she hasn’t forgotten her sister, who has in a way saved her life while giving up her own. The former tennis player shared a close bond with her younger sister. Evert believes if it were not for her sister, she won’t be alive today. The former tennis player got herself tested after her sister’s death and found out that she was suffering from the same disease.

After Jeanne’s death, the elder sister had a test that not only considered the possibility of ovarian cancer but also tests for heart conditions, diabetes, and other ailments.

The 18-time Grand Slam winner continued her career with ESPN as a sports pundit after overcoming cancer.
