Chris Evert has completed a milestone. It has been a year since she was diagnosed with 1C Ovarian cancer. And that has led her to become a huge proponent of cancer awareness, especially for women. Evert took this time to commemorate the loss of her sister, Jeanne Evert Dubin. She lost her sister to cancer and conveyed her loud and clear message to women around the world.

Despite having one of the most glorious careers on the tennis court, Evert felt helpless during her cancer journey, but as usual, her resilience let her fight it. And that is exactly what she wants others to have.

One year ago, at this point, Evert made a horrifying discovery. She had cancer, and she was to undergo chemotherapy. The legendary American tennis player had already lost a sister to cancer in 2020.

Evert gave the example of her sister, Jeanne Evert Dubin, who always kept everybody else ahead of her. She asked people to prioritize themselves. In a message through ESPN, she said, “My sister, like many people, was so busy taking care of everybody else, she ignored what her body was trying to tell her.” Furthermore, she said, “My advice is: Trust your gut, know your family history, learn about genetic testing and be your own advocate.”

Conclusively, she said, “There are doctors around the world working on better options for BRCA mutation carriers; in the meantime, own your journey and spread the word.”

Finding out about her diagnosis after losing her sister to cancer shook Evert’s world. But she had the love and support of all of her fans and loved ones who were by her side.

Evert’s ex-husband Andy Mill accompanied her to chemotherapy sessions

The 18-time Grand Slam champion did not have a great run in terms of romantic relationships, as all of her three marriages ended in divorce. However, she managed to maintain a cordial friendship with her ex-husband Andy Mill, with whom she has three children.

The former Alpine skier was with Evert in all of her chemotherapy sessions. He was even there when she rang the bell after her last chemotherapy. Evert has conveyed her gratitude for the support he provided her during the toughest battle of her life.
