Former American tennis star Serena Williams has inspired generations in her journey. The 41-year-old had to fight many battles on and off the court to achieve what she has today. Her 27-year-long career ended recently after her third-round exit in the US Open 2022.

The Arthur Ashe stadium recorded staggering footfalls in the three matches of Serena. Apart from the regular fans, a few celebrities were also present in the crowd. One of them who visited twice was the popular actress and LGBTQ activist Laverne Cox. Recently, she spoke about her experience of watching Serena play in her last tournament.

Laverne Cox speaks about her admiration for Serena

American actress Laverne Cox rose to prominence with her role in the popular Netflix show Orange is the New Black. The actress recently appeared in the Jennifer Hudson Show. She spoke about the experience of watching Serena Williams in her last tournament.

“I have been a Serena Williams fan since I knew who she was. I’ve been watching tennis since I was a kid,” she said. Cox further added, “Obviously, she is retired now. I went to second to her last, I went twice that week. The crowd was like, it was, we were so on edge when she would be down, but then she would be up. We were cheering and just screaming.”

Speaking more about her experience, Cox said, “two matches I saw she won, and I was prom girl. I was crying. It was so emotional like so because she’s such to see a living legend, the GOAT in person fighting, still having it, still have the fight, still have the game. It was so inspiring.”

Serena Williams’ brave run in her last US Open

Serena went into her last US Open with a reputation of having never lost a match before the third round ever in her career. However, her scratchy form before her last tournament made everybody doubt if the record will remain. But Serena, being Serena, gave her bravest attempt to win the 24th Grand Slam title.

After a fighting win in her first match, she registered a straight-set victory in her second-round match to keep her record alive forever. Further, in the third round, Serena fought tooth and nail but ended up on the losing side.
