While there has been intriguing tennis action in the early part of the 2024 season, there has also been an unexpected guest at some tournaments. The weather has been playing spoilsport of late in the tennis circuit. Take the example of the recently-concluded Miami Open, where persistent rain interrupted the matches of players like Naomi Osaka, Danielle Collins, and others. As the action moves to Charleston, another unfortunate update is awaiting the players and fans.
South Carolina has been experiencing fluctuating weather conditions recently. While some days are bright, other days have been gloomy and rain gods have opened up. A similar situation has erupted today.

Danielle Collins opened her campaign with a comfortable win over Paula Badosa in the first round. She is scheduled to play her second-round match later today, where she’ll face the second seed, Ons Jabeur, if the weather delay doesn’t get worse.
Further, the tournament’s official Twitter handle urged players and fans to monitor their handles for updates. Going by the forecast, rain is expected to clear in the afternoon, although it is predicted to be cloudy. As a result, there are chances that Danielle Collins’ match will be delayed and might not even take place today. Another American star in play today is Emma Navarro, whose match is also thrown in limbo.
These weather delays have taken a toll on tournament schedules. Moreover, players have also complained about inadequate recovery times between their matches, with Coco Gauff recently having spoken on this matter.

Gauff had a long wait at the Miami Open
Last month, the Miami Open experienced many delays as clouds opened up frequently. Due to this, many matches were suspended and later rescheduled to different times, wreaking havoc. Coco Gauff was among the affected players, who were disappointed with her schedule.

She said, “Yeah, I was just waiting around, talked to some folks, played some games, read. It felt like a long wait. I was kind of not sure when to eat. Also, the tournament was giving us unrealistic ‘not before’ times, so that felt a little bit weird, too.”
It remains to be seen if the weather can clear out soon in Charleston. While it might be a long wait for the fans, today’s order of play in the tournament is sure to excite them as the likes of Danielle Collins and Navarro take to the court.
