Jessica Pegula has recently set fire to the Charleston Open, where she beat her third opponent, Victoria Azarenka. While the previous match wasn’t too difficult for Pegula, the clash against Victoria Azarenka proved to be one of her toughest challenges recently. She came back from the door of death in the clash, and her response after the bout showed her fatigue.
Pegula has not had a great start to the season, as she has not managed to go far in many tournaments this year. However, her performance in the Charleston Open shows good promise.

The third set between Pegula and Azarenka would be a clash that the two would not expect. It went to a tiebreaker, and Azarenka attained match point four times. Unfortunately for her, Pegula managed to save match-point every single time until she went on to win the clash herself, breathing a huge sigh of relief. As she left the court, she went on to write, “WTF”, and signed her name on the camera, showing her disbelief at the match. The Charleston Open account shared the video with the caption, “Let’s not spell this one out, Jess 😉”.

Pegula went on to share the video herself with the caption, “How I feel about today 😅”. The bout with Azarenka was not something Pegula would’ve expected. Pegula began the bout by taking the first set 6-4, setting herself up for a good win. The Belarusian 34-year-old player surprised her and took the second set home 6-3.
Azarenka went home downtrodden as she had come into her bout with Pegula after a long and arduous clash against Taylor Townsend. The battle proved to be long for her son, and he realized he needed a break from the blistering heat.

“It was too hot”: Victoria Azarenka’s son on much-needed ice-cream break
Azarenka’s triumph in the first set of the Charleston Open on Thursday was tough to predict. The tension of the match increased in the first set. However, following the set, Azarenka’s son, Leo, shared his desire to take an ice cream break due to the scorching heat in the stadium. The break proved to be highly beneficial for Azarenka as well. During the short break, she spent time with her son, and her performance improved significantly.
“I needed an ice cream break. Like I really needed it. It was too hot,” said Leo, Azarenka’s 8-year-old son. As he joked during the post-match interview with Tennis Channel, Azarenka also said, “I went to the bathroom and took the ice cream break, too.”
