After her triumphant run at the second event of the Sunshine Double, the American tennis star will now participate in the Charleston Open, where she is an unseeded player. During her campaign at the WTA 1000 event in Miami, Danielle Collins overcame some of the top seed players like Ekaterina Alexandrova, Caroline Garcia, and Sorana Cîrstea. In the championship game, Collins defeated the former Grand Slam champion Elena Rybakina in straight sets, 7-5, 6-3.

Paula Badosa, on the other hand, is coming to this WTA 500 clay court tournament after a lackluster campaign at the Miami Open. In the opening round match, the Spanish player defeated the 2-time singles Grand Slam champion Simona Halep in a three-set game. However, Badosa later failed to overcome the second seed, Aryna Sabalenka, as she got knocked out after the round of 64 fixtures in Miami.

The R64 match between Danielle Collins and Paula Badosa at this season’s Charleston Open will also mark their second meeting on the women’s tour. In their previous encounter at the 2022 San Diego Open, the American player defeated Badosa in straight sets, and she currently has a 1-0 lead in their H2H record.

Prediction: Collins to prevail in the R64 match of the Charleston Open

The American tennis star is on a roll this season, as she has defeated some of the big guns to clinch her first WTA 1000 title on the tour. Given her solid 49-28 record on clay court surfaces and her recent stellar form in recent tournaments, Collins is the favorite to win this opener against Badosa, who has faced a number of initial round defeats this season.
