Thirteen years after her illustrious victory at the 2011 edition, Caroline Wozniacki has made a triumphant comeback to the WTA Charleston Open. However, it is the first time since her return to tennis after more than three years in 2023, that her husband, former NBA star David Lee, and her two youngest fans, 2-year-old daughter, Olivia and 1-year-old son, James are not in attendance to support her.

Supermom Wozniacki is traveling with her dad and confessed to already missing her family after breezing past Mccartney Kessler in the first round at the Credit One Stadium on Daniel Island.

Talking to the Tennis Channel after a thunderous victory, Wozniacki opened up about this being the first tournament with her family not there to support her, “It’s different. It was really nice for a couple of days, you know, being able to sleep in and get a little time. But now I miss them. It’s the first time that they’re not with me at a tournament, so it’s definitely a little strange.”

The Dane has previously said that she enjoys traveling with her kids and that they are an “extension” of her. She also pointed out that their age makes it easier for them to be moved around and tagged along for tournaments. Wozniacki even stated that her daughter loves to travel and keeps asking her about their next plane trip.

However, traveling with her dad does have nostalgic value for Wozniacki, as she adds, “But brings me back to the old times. So just me and my dad, you know, trucking along and trying to do our best. So since I’m not with the kids, I better be winning.”

‘They want you to be there 100% for them’ – Caroline Wozniacki

Talking to the media during the pre-tournament presser before the Australian Open earlier this year, Wozniacki talked about wanting to be one hundred percent present in the moment, “It doesn’t matter if you’ve played for 1 hour, 3 hours, 10 hours, they’re still there and having full energy. They want you to be there 100% for them,”

She adds, “I try. When I’m on court, I’m 100% there. When I’m with my family, I’m 100% there, as well.” With additional motivation to make her children proud, the Dane will be looking to repeat her 2011 performance to clinch the title on Daniel Island. She will next be facing a resilient Anhelina Kalinina in the second round.
