Former champion Caroline Wozniacki has found her way out of the Australian Open. For the past few days, the Danish tennis player has been in the headlines because of her comment involving Serena Williams. But now that she has faced defeat against qualifier Maria Timofeeva in the second round of the Australian Open after making her comeback.

While she made a strong statement regarding top players in comparison to the 23-time Grand Slam champion, she might have created a problem for herself. Recently, after facing a defeat by a 20-year-old, she faced the wrath of tennis fans for hyping her best friend Serena after her heartbreaking Australian Open loss.

Wozniacki thinks ‘Serena Williams when she was at her best’ is unbeatable by any current top player

For the first time since the 2020 Australian Open, the 33-year-old played in the same tournament. After making it through the first round of the tournament, she made a statement regarding how it would not have been easy for any of the top-ranked WTA players to beat their best friend, Serena Williams, on the court.

She stated, “I don’t think any of the current top players would beat Serena Williams when she was at her best.” However, just a day after she faced defeat in the second round of the tournament by a 20-year-old Russian player, Subsequently, after her defeat, she received a lot of flak for her statement that hyped her best friend in comparison with the young WTA stars ruling the tennis arena.

When the official Australian Open account shared the victory moment for the 20-year-old player, tennis fans flooded the comment section and criticized her for her new generation take.

A fan openly wrote about what the Dane talked about completing with the new generation. “Wasn’t Wozniacki criticizing the level of the new generation just yesterday?” 

On the other hand, another tennis fan questioned her about why she was not able to go past the 42-year-old American tennis legend. He wrote, “Wozniacki can talk all she wants about how the current top 10 players might not be able to challenge peak Serena while she herself couldn’t even beat, WTA #170.” 

In addition, a fan shared a different perspective. “And she said that Serena’s era was hard… now she is beating by qualifier… now even youngsters have coach, physio, supplements. More data, better preparation.” 

Subsequently, another one highlighted how it is just an answer to questioning the current generation of tennis players. He wrote, “That was payback to Wozniacki for insulting the current crop of players. Just because she cannot beat Serena doesn’t mean the current players are weak. A qualifier just shot her down.” 

Apart from that, a fan directly stated the condition that would go with the statement. “You shouldn’t be allowed to say this and then lose to Maria Timofeeva.”

While the former world’s number one question was with the new generation, her opponent was on cloud nine after her victory against the Dane.

Maria Timofeeva cannot believe that she defeated Caroline Wozniacki 

After achieving a victory against the form of Australian Open champion, the Russian qualifier top about her victory. During the post-match press conference, she said, “It was an honor to play here against Caroline today. I’m just beyond happy and couldn’t ask for more.”

Along with that, she also highlighted how she was left speechless after achieving victory against a former world number one who has seen success on the tennis court. Even after making a comeback after embracing motherhood and being a way for the sport for a brief period, Wozniacki is once again trying to create a name for herself in the tennis world.
