The 3-time singles Grand Slam champion last graced the tennis courts during her participation in the 2022 Wimbledon Championship. While getting real about her comeback in the upcoming season, the 35-year-old player named her two role models on the women’s tour who have inspired her to step on the court once again.

Making a return to the tennis court after embracing motherhood, and that too at the age of 35, Angelique Kerber is making it look easy. And it is the German tennis player’s colleagues, Caroline Wozniacki and Elina Svitolina, part of the ‘tennis moms club,’ who have inspired her to make this robust comeback decision.

In an interview with Bild, the former world No. 1 player revealed that there have been many positive stories of tennis moms’ comebacks this season, which have inspired her to believe that it is possible. While naming her two role models on the women’s tour, Kerber said, “But Caro Wozniacki and Elina Svitolina, just to name two, played great after their return. That was impressive.”

The 3-time singles Grand Slam champion also asserted that she will have to find her own way and rhythm to take up  ‘the biggest challenge of all time’  for a female athlete. As she prepares for her much-awaited return on the tour, the 35-year-old player also brings to light her intensive training sessions.

In the same interview, the German player opened up about how the comeback task is something completely new and challenging. She said, “I didn’t want to train through, but there are days and sometimes weeks that are free so that it doesn’t become too much.”

Meanwhile, Kerber also revealed how she has been undergoing some long and intensive training sessions for her fitness levels. The former world No. 1 player stated, “For me, the preparation feels four times longer than usual. I have never trained so long and intensively.”
