The former world No. 1 is doing great at the Australian Open, and now she has reached the 4th round of the tournament. After winning the third round and defeating Jelena Ostapenko, she talked about wanting to teach her son the importance of carrying a solid mentality during an on-court interview.

She said, “I was looking through some videos today. I always try to find a way to talk to Leo about sports and mentality. I thought, ‘How can you get to a great place and winning titles without pressure…’ That’s impossible. I feel like you can’t run away from it. You have to face it right in front of you. It’s scary. It’s difficult but it’s something you want to acknowledge and go through.”

She is a supportive mom to her 7-year-old son, who is into soccer. Although Leo is excellent in the sport, there are many other things he needs to understand while growing up, and having a tennis mom can be pretty helpful. The two-time Grand Slam champion talked about how she finds opportunities to speak to her son regarding the connection between sports and mentality.

She also highlighted how it’s crucial to balance the pressure of winning and to be in a positive space as an athlete. Subsequently, earlier last year, the Grand Slam champion talked about being supportive of her son’s dream and being an obnoxious mother at the same time.

Azarenka’s take on being a soccer mom

Just like how the two-time Australian Open has followed the PSG for around 10 years, her son has also carried the trend and dreams of playing for the club one day. According to Reuters, she said, “I’m a soccer mom now and I love that. I’m obnoxious, like absolutely the most obnoxious.”

She also highlighted that she has no shame in screaming and cheering up for her son. In addition, she highlighted how it’s an entirely different emotion for her to support her son and want him to achieve all his dreams. After winning the custody battle following her split with her husband, Leo has been often seen accompanying his mother on tennis tours.
