Martina Navratilova has always been straightforward in giving her opinions. It was the same case when she was asked about running for the most prestigious and powerful position in the country, the President of the United States.

The 59-time Grand Slam champion has always voiced her opinions in favor of gender equality or LGBTQ rights. This has raised questions about her interest in being a part of politics. Navratilova expressed her views on running for the office in an old interview.
Martina Navratilova on venturing into politics
In the interview, Navratilova spoke about the issue of inclusivity of lesbians in our society. She said, “I’d like to say to young women that it’s OK to be a lesbian and to embrace who you are.” She added, “Everybody needs a lifeline when they feel alone in the world, they need to be able to get support.” Navratilova vouched for people like her, as she said, “So maybe we can be there for young lesbians growing up. I don’t want them to feel scared.”

Taking into account her proclivity for giving her views about political matters, the reporter asked if she was interested in running for the office and being the President of the USA.

To this, Navratilova replied without hesitating, “No. I cannot deal with the hypocrisy and the double-dealing that you have to do to get ahead.” She added, “That’s just not me.”
Navratilova- an epitome of resilience
The former Czech-American player started speaking up for herself after she defected to the US from Czechoslovakia. Navratilova defected from her country at 18 and knew people would hear her voice in her adopted country. So, she learned to use the opportunity wisely, both for herself and for others.

She also made the most of the opportunities that she got on the court, winning an incredible 59 grand slam titles, with 18 coming in the singles category. After retiring from professional tennis, she now uses Twitter widely to express such opinions.
