American tennis great Serena Williams recently played her last tennis match. While the whole world is busy counting her achievements, Navratilova pointed out a factor that is much bigger than any of her other achievements. The 65-year-old lauded Serena to show the world that a mother can also compete at the top level of a professional sport. Recalling her playing days, the 18-time Grand Slam champion said that in their time it was either having a baby or a career. However, the trend has changed now and Serena is a prime reason for it.
Notably, Serena clinched her 23rd Grand Slam title, back in 2017, at the Australian Open, playing during her pregnancy. Later she returned to competitive tennis and had a good 2018. Although she couldn’t win a Grand Slam, she made it to the final at Wimbledon and the French Open.
