Legendary American tennis player Serena Williams’ Grand Slam comeback did not go as planned as she suffered a terrible loss in the first-round match at the Wimbledon Championships 2022. She was playing against the 24-year-old French tennis player, who destroyed Serena’s dream of winning the 24th Grand Slam title in the first round.?

With this defeat, she lost yet another chance to match Margaret Court’s record number of Grand Slam titles, i.e. 24.

Serena Williams suffered a heavy defeat in the first round of the Wimbledon Championships 2022

In the first set, Serena looked extremely sloppy due to the fact that it was her first singles match in almost a year. After going down a break early in the first set, the American made a solid recovery and came back in the set. However, Tan broke Serena’s serve once more to take the first set 7-5.?

In the second set, the story was quite different, as the American tennis player cruised past the French player; she took the set 6-1. The third set was a roller-coaster affair as both players broke each other’s serves to eventually force a tie-break.?

Unfortunately, the legendary American could not beat the French player, as Tan won 10-7 in the tie-break. The final score was 7-5 1-6 7-6 in favor of Tan.

What’s next for Serena?

Many thought it will be a tough match for Serena after the draw came out, but most of the fans and experts picked Serena to win the first-round match. Unfortunately, it did not happen, as it was a heart-breaking loss for the American legend. Now, she has to wait for another Grand Slam tournament to reach her goal of 24 Grand Slam titles.

However, at the moment, it is looking like an impossible task for Serena. At 40, she is nearly at the end of her career and her fitness is a big concern for her. Right now, she will most probably focus on the US Open, her home Grand Slam. Maybe with the home support, she could do the impossible and win the Grand Slam title.
