Brutal Verbal Feud Ensued as Russian Beauty Maria Sharapova’s Harsh Personal Take Rubber Off Wrongly on Rival Ana Ivanovic at 2014 US Open

The Russian tennis star Maria Sharapova‘s matches have always been incomplete without chilly moments. Her rivalries and matches contained sweet moments and salty face-offs. Whether it was a verbal altercation or the heat of a tennis match. Just like her rivalry with Serena Williams was quite obvious, there was another tennis player who had a verbal spat with the Russian tennis star.

Nearly nine years ago, Sharapova and Ana Ivanovic engaged in a heated exchange of words. The feud highlighted Sharapova’s resentment of a Serbian tennis player’s incident she witnessed on the tennis court. Let’s take a clear look at what happened at the time that brought both tennis players into the limelight because of their verbal rivalry.

When Maria Sharapova and Ivanovic got into a verbal war of words 

Even though both WTA tennis players have faced each other 14 times on the tennis court, their rivalry is something that is not much talked about in the women’s tennis circuit. But what happened back in 2014 literally made their rivalry stand out from the crowd. During the US Open, a reporter was gathering ideas regarding what rules should be changed on the tennis court.

And when this question was asked to the five-time Grand Slam champion, she made a direct statement that she wanted players to pay $2,500 per medical timeout, pointing direct fingers at the Serbian tennis player. During one of the US Open press conferences, when Sharapova’s take was kept in front of the 35-year-old, she didn’t hold back and gave a very clear answer.

According to ESPN, Ivanovic said, “I think that’s a little bit harsh, you know. But I’m sure many players would agree to pay if it’s about health, you know. Maybe toilet breaks. That’s another story. But medical timeouts, I think players use them when they need them.”

But that was not it. Just before the US Open during the Cincinnati Masters, the onetime Grand Slam champion pulled out a victory against the former world number one, making her glittery comeback dream fail. Before pointing out things in front of the media, her feelings were quite evident on the court when the 35-year-old tennis player, defeated her chance to warm up before the US Open.

The Russian tennis star once directly confronted Ivanovic’s integrity during a match between the duo.

Sharapova once questioned the credibility of Ivanovic 

Back in 2014, the Russian tennis player was enjoying a good season after winning the French Open. And with great confidence in herself, she participated in the Cincinnati Masters. But during her match against the Serbian tennis player, things didn’t go well as her opponent took a time out due to medical issues.

During the medical time-out, the 37-year-old tennis star lashed out at her opponent, addressing how it was just strange timing and how the problem came out of nowhere. Not only that, she also highlighted how the situation was quite frustrating for her. As her opponent was looking okay, and doubted how Ivanovic could have played for longer hours if she was not feeling well.
