World no. 77 Emma Raducanu, the 18-year-old British tennis player recently faced world no. 1 Iga Swiatek in the Round 16 of the Indian Wells Masters. Although Swiatek beat her in straight sets of 3-6, 1-6, Raducanu put up a strong fight. However, during the post-match presser, she made a candid assessment of her performance. Responding to a tricky question previously asked to Coco Gauff, Raducanu admitted that she was not even at 50% of her capacity as a player.

She was asked about the difference between the player she is now and the one she aspires to be in the future. As the reporter said, Coco Gauff rated herself at 65%, meaning she still had 35% to cover. However, to this question, Raducanu says, “I would honestly say like 35%.”
She went on to explain that she had not trained as much but she is sure that her physical fitness would be a great aspect in deciding in her tennis career. “…I haven’t trained (smiling). Physically I feel like that’s going to be one of my biggest assets. My team has spoken about it.”
Despite her honest assessment, Raducanu remains optimistic about her future prospects in the game. Manifesting what her fans would call a beautiful confidence, she says, “I think that I’m going to be, like, one of the best athletes on the tour, and that’s going to be a big part of my game. Yeah, I would say there is a very long way to go, but I’m definitely starting the right work now.”

However, she stuck to an honest assessment of herself and says that there is a long way to reach her goal. According to her she has already started with the right steps to the destination.
