To say that Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova were just rivals and nothing else would be wrong. The two tennis players have been with each other in all their trials as friends and as tennis stars during their heyday on the WTA Tour. They have supported and rooted for each other both on and off the court. On the same lines, Navratilova recently hailed Evert for her resolve in raising awareness about cancer and its early diagnosis.

Unfortunately, yet incidentally, both the players have gone through one bout each of dealing with cancer. However, they have used this opportunity to make women around the world aware of the deadly disease.

Martina Navratilova hails Chris Evert for being a tough sport

The Czech-American tennis legend Martina Navratilova has always been a tough character both on and off the court. However, the player accepted she broke down completely when she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2010. Fortunately, she fought that battle and came out victorious. On the other hand, she also hailed her tennis rival and close friend Chris Evert.

Evert herself overcame her diagnosis of 1C Ovarian cancer and Navratilova had nothing but praise for her during her interview with TODAY in October. She said, “Chris was such a brave warrior through it all and she went public as well for the same reason.” Navratilova conveyed Evert’s message from her side and said, “She wanted to make sure that women were aware of what they can do to prevent this from happening.”

Both tennis players have taken significant steps in highlighting the struggles of women throughout the world. Navratilova has urged women to get their mammograms done regularly, especially when they have hit the later stages of their life.

How did Navratilova’s father help in her battle against cancer? 

The player has completely recovered from the breast cancer that she was diagnosed with in 2010. Recently, in the same interview, she shared the advice of her father.

He told her to care about nothing else except of her health. And the 59-time Grand Slam winner accepted how things changed for her in 2010. Now, she ardently makes it an issue to make women aware about the ways in which identify the earliest signs of such deadly health conditions.
