The disastrous storm made landfall near Siesta Key, Florida on Wednesday. It claimed the lives of at least 17 people and left more than 2.8 million people without power on Thursday, as the situation continued to turn dire. Now, the major focus is to bring life back into motion with several relief measures being taken. Amidst this, Collins took to her Instagram to share a relieving update about herself and expressed her gratitude for being safe.
The 30-year-old shared a story and revealed the storm’s impact on her; “Thanks to all who have been reaching out and checking in. It’s been a nightmare for so many Floridians. I consider myself very lucky that I have very little damage relative to so much of my family and friends. It puts everything into perspective. Blessed to still have a roof over my head,” the resident of St. Petersburg wrote. She also highlighted the impact of the storm on whom she considers the “love of her life,” her dog, Quincy, also known as Mr. Q.

“Even though Mr.Q’s toys got drenched he is happy these monster hurricanes are behind us,” the star player added. Continuing further, She also prayed for the safety of the citizens. “Praying for everyone who has faced devastation during this incredibly difficult time And praying everyone stays safe during the rest of hurricane season.” Remarkably, the tennis community stayed united even before the landfall of the storm and extended their support and well wishes to the citizens.
Earlier, the 2023 US Open winner Coco Gauff came forward to share her well wishes for the citizens. “Please Stay Safe, Florida,” Gauff wrote on her story with a folded hands emoji, showcasing her prayer. Similar reactions followed from another Floridian, Chris Evert, who shared crucial updates about evacuation and prayed for everyone’s safety.
The former pro, who resides in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, shared a clip from CNN’s coverage where the Tampa mayor urged people to evacuate because the storm “isn’t survivable.” Sharing it, Evert tweeted, “Please take this warning seriously!” But it is not just the players who are sharing updates about the aftermath of the storm, as their family members are also coming to the forefront to highlight the current situation.
