Tennis legend Billie Jean King expressed her condolences to the family of talented TV creator, commentator, and activist, Norman Lear. Norman Lear breathed his last this Tuesday and he was 101 years old at that time. Known for some groundbreaking TV content in the 70s such as All in the Family, Good Times, and Maude, Norman Lear’s passing away saddened many Hollywood celebrities including famous Rob Reiner, who claimed Lear as his second father.

Apart from entertaining shows, Norman Lear’s contribution also lies in social activism. Probably, that is also what attracted Billie Jean King, who devoted her life after retirement to social activism. Now after his death, along with many other popular Hollywood names, Billie Jean King is also mourning the death of this renowned person.

Billie Jean King dropped her heartfelt condolences for Norman Lear’s family

King who is quite active on both Instagram and X (formerly Twitter), recently shared a photo of her with Norman Lear on Instagram with a message. In this message, she wrote- “Norman Lear was a creative trailblazer, far ahead of his time, who combined comedy with social commentary in a way no one else could. He was also one of the kindest people I’ve ever met, and a WWII veteran. Sending our love to his family. Norman will never be forgotten.”  

Billie Jean King’s comment revealed that this tennis legend was amazed at Norman Lear’s creative ability to infuse comic elements into serious commentaries. This is surely something that not many people can do. Being the legend Norman Lear is, King’s impressed attitude towards him was inevitable.

However, the list of mourners for this Kennedy Center Honor receiver included celebrities like Rita Moreno, who started her journey with Lear from One Day at a Time. Barbra Streisand, Billy Crystal, Mark Ruffalo, and Wanda Sykes also dropped their condolences for the family of this television legend.

Before Norman Lear, Billie Jean King’s social media family received another condolence message. This is when the tennis legend shared her grief over former US first lady and social activist, Rosalynn Carter’s passing away. Remembering Carter’s fight for mental health, King tweeted saying- “Her philanthropy will live on. Thinking of the entire Carter family, as they attend Rosalynn’s memorial service in Atlanta today.”

King’s social media reveals that this tennis veteran always had a soft spot for activists who tried to bring betterment to society and for the unprivileged.
