“I see you walking toward someone,” Meghan Markle recalled her first meeting experience with Serena
Back in August 2022, Serena Williams graced Meghan’s podcast Archetypes with Meghan, offering a glimpse into her remarkable tennis journey. As they delved into heartfelt conversations, the Duchess of Sussex fondly recalled their very first meeting at the 2010 Super Bowl: a moment that sparked an instant connection between the two.
“It was the same year as the Super Bowl when the Super Bowl was in New York. I’d never been to it before, and then I show u,p and I see you walking toward someone. I remember thinking, ‘Oh my gosh, who is Serena Williams going to talk to? I looked behind me, and when I turned around, you were there right in front of me. We became such fast friends,” Markle revealed in the podcast.
While Markle has often been spotted courtside, cheering on the former American no. 1 during her matches, Serena has also stood by Meghan’s side on various occasions, most notably attending her ‘royal wedding’ to Prince Harry. Their bond was quite evident at the ESPY Awards as well, where Serena introduced the Duke and Duchess of Sussex with a playful exchange.
