Can Alexis Ohanian truly be the 'best dad ever' while juggling a high-powered career?

Alexis Ohanian is always ready to wear his heart on his sleeve when it comes to his daughters. No matter how packed his schedule is as a powerhouse entrepreneur, Serena Williams’ husband makes sure to carve out quality time for his little girls, creating cherished memories and setting the bar high for fatherhood. But now, as people recognize his efforts and pile on the praises, there’s one twist: Ohanian feels the compliments don’t quite capture it!

The ‘Business Dad’ took to his Instagram on Sunday and shared a video where he can be seen making ice cream-shaped pancakes for his elder daughter, Olympia. He highlighted that while he could not make the pancake perfectly, it was an apt response to the 7-year-old’s demand for ice cream for breakfast. Ohanian captioned the post, “I messed up the waffle cone but this is what @olympiaohanian got when she had the audacity to ask for ice cream for breakfast. #PapaPancakes.” The post quickly gained traction with comments floating in from all across the globe.

Responding to Ohanian’s post, Kia J Brooks, the mother of American rapper and college basketball player Flau’jae Johnson shared an adorable remark. “You’re the best dad in the whole wide world 😂❤️,” she wrote. However, the 41-year-old did not feel satisfied enough with this praise as he responded with a cheeky take.

Replying to Brooks’ comment, Ohanian wrote, “best ever tho??” signifying that he wishes to be called the best dad across generations. Indeed, his gestures have depicted his immense love and fatherhood responsibilities for his daughters time and again. In a recent post on X in October, the Reddit co-founder showered his admiration for his daughters and wrote, “I’m so proud to be a father to two amazing little girls. An absolute blessing.” He has also demonstrated his culinary skills on several occasions. So, this is not the first time when Ohanian has got into his pancake-making spree.

Known for his famous “Papa Pancakes” mornings, Ohanian has made pancakes that resemble Olympia and even other fun shapes like Disney characters. However, all his pancake art do not go perfectly. Once, he accidentally gave Olympia a pancake with a goatee, a funny mistake that he later shared online, saying, “Sorry, I gave you a goatee, baby.” In fact, Ohanian has also included little Adira in it.

In May, Ohanian shared the moment when Adira enjoyed her first-ever pancake. Olympia was also there, helping her dad prepare the batter for their Sunday breakfast tradition. Ohanian’s pancake creations have continued to evolve for good, including designing pancakes that resemble Olympia playing the guitar. However, Olympia often makes sure that she to review her dad’s work.

Have an interesting take?

Ohanian lightheartedly noted, “I made @olympiaohanian playing guitar, and baby girl has NOTES for me now growing up fast.” Last year, Ohanian’s pancake-making skills were on full display when he had shared a clip of himself using colored pancake batter to “draw” Gwen Stacy (aka Spider-Woman) on a griddle. He used dark green to first draw the outline of her, and then he fills it in with pink and white. When he flips the pancake over, it looks exactly like the superhero!

“A little off 🤪 but SpiderGwen still saved the day. #PapaPancakes for @olympiaohanian,” he had captioned the clip. More characters have become alive with Ohanian’s impeccable skills. In 2022, after getting a “new request” from daughter Olympia, Ohanian makes a detailed, edible Ariel pancake for Olympia who was 4 then.

In the caption, the entrepreneur wrote, “@olympiaohanian had a new request for her custom Papa Pancakes — Ariel 🧜‍♀️” He captured the process with a video appropriately set to The Little Mermaid’s “Part of Your World.” Despite churning out the masterpiece looks, Ohanian remained humble. “I forgot to give her a nose,” he had added in the caption. In 2020, he had made a pancake with his daughter’s name Olympia spelled out in blue with a pink background. Notably, Ohanian is not the only celeb dad with a knack for pancake art!

Television host and comedian Jimmy Kimmel has made and shared pictures of an Oscar the Grouch flapjack, and other adorable creations. Yet, pancakes are not the only foods Ohanian has made for his daughters. His cooking outings has also included making pasta and deliciously sweet beignets on previous occasions. With all these, Ohanian believes that becoming a father was one of his greatest achievements and his daughters have given him a whole new worldview.

In an interview with José Andrés, a restaurateur and chef for the Business Dad Podcast, Ohanian shared, “With two daughters, I have my whole worldview turned upside down. And it was so eye-opening and I love it. They are such sweet, kind, wonderful creatures. I just love them.”  This love was even witnessed during the Athlos NYC event when Serena Williams’ husband did not shy away from taking Olympia even to the interview box. And it is probably for this love that the “best dad” is often ready to  go against the views of his business colleagues.

When Alexis Ohanian gave a sharp response to his critics

The amount of time that Alexis Ohanian spends with his daughters is something that many do not expect from entrepreneurs. And as he has continued to prove these notions wrong by setting new dad goals, he has also faced criticism. But Ohanian is going not the one to accept offense. He clapped back at the naysayers who questioned the amount of time he spends with his daughters and claimed it impacts Ohanian’s business ventures.

Speaking in an interview with Taylor Smith for the latter’s Offseason NFC podcast, the 41-year-old opened up on the criticisms. “I have business folks I work with. I have got guys who sincerely think I am not nearly as committed as I am to success at work because they know that side of my persona,” he said. Continuing further, he added, “And it’s so wild, because I’m like, bro I know I outwork you, I know my returns are better than you. But I think it’s cute that you have this idea that I can’t be showing up for my kids, making some pancakes, and also show up to beat your a–.” Doesn’t that sum it all up?”

As Ohanian gets the limelight yet again for his immense love for his daughters, it would be interesting to see if there will be what next for his family. Even more crucial to see would be whether Brooks corrects herself and regards Ohanian as the “best dad ever.”
