A passionate music lover, Coco has long made waves for her presence at music festivals, including her vibrant appearance at the 2023 Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival. The World No. 4 Coco Gauff showcased her trademark grit under pressure recently at the Mutua Madrid Open, clawing back from a shocking first-set loss to defeat Ukraine’s Dayana Yastremska 0-6, 6-2, 7-5 in a thrilling second-round clash. It was only the second time in her WTA career that Coco bounced back after losing the first set 6-0, with the first being in Eastbourne four years ago against Elise Mertens. 

With two more victories in Madrid, Coco could surpass her previous best in Madrid in five appearances. But apart from her on-court performance, what made the night even more special for her? Well, Gauff took to social media to share the Lorde track she was vibing to post-match, adding a heartfelt shout-out to her father, Corey Gauff, whose eclectic music taste continues to shape her playlist.

Just a while back, on her IG stories, the American ace shared a screenshot of herself listening to Lorde’s track What Was That with a sweet caption that read, “believe it or not my dad introduced me to lorde when I was like 12 haha. that man’s music taste is all over the place and I love it.” The shout-out was clearly for her father, Corey Gauff, whose diverse taste in music continues to be an enormous influence on her.

Coco has never been shy about expressing her love for music or musicians. Back in December last year, she took a break from her intense training schedule to catch the much-anticipated film Wicked, featuring a powerhouse cast that included Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo, Jonathan Bailey, and Bowen Yang. Even though musicals aren’t her usual vibe, Gauff was pleasantly surprised. “I’m not a musical girly but this was really good!!! 10!!” she raved on her IG story.

Music is never far from Gauff’s world, even during tournament season. At the AO earlier this year, she showed her support for rising rapper Doechii. In the middle of her preparation for Indian Wells, she took a moment to share a TikTok video, dancing joyfully to Doechii’s hit track Anxiety. Her message was simple and heartfelt: “luv doechii.”

In February, when Beyoncé made history by becoming the first Black woman to win a top award, announced by none other than Taylor Swift, Coco once again used her platform to celebrate the moment. “Happy BHM,” she wrote, in honor of Black History Month, applauding the significance of Beyoncé’s milestone.

Last year’s Madrid Open saw Coco Gauff deliver a flawless 6-0, 6-0 debut victory over Arantxa Rus. But it wasn’t just the match that stole the spotlight. It was also the unforgettable fan moment that followed. Coco took to IG story, teasing her followers with, “I normally don’t record videos like this, but I had the craziest fan, she is the sweetest soul, but I am about to post, just watch the next two posts.” 

And sure enough, the next stories revealed a fan who asked Coco to autograph her arm, promising to turn it into a tattoo. Hours later, Coco re-shared the fan’s reel, where the fan had permanently inked the signature. “And she actually got it tatted. MADRID ENERGY IS DIFFERENT! Sob fr omg,” a thrilled Coco wrote in the caption.

And her magic is still alive in this year’s Madrid Open as well! After a tough win against Yastremska, Coco experienced yet another fan moment that she shared on Instagram. On this occasion, Katherine Canlas, a hardcore fan, exhibited a tattoo on her arm featuring Coco’s signature and silhouette. “She tatted me and my signature omg,” Coco wrote, clearly moved by the gesture.

The heartwarming exchange didn’t stop there. The fan later shared a story showing Coco snapping a photo of the tattoo with the caption, “@cocogauff Got shoes signed and a hug, I can die happy now.” Coco, overwhelmed with gratitude, again re-shared the post, embracing the sweet connection with her fans.
