Iga Swiatek has been on an epic run after losing in the Round of 16 at the US Open. She had won 12 out of the 13 matches she had played after that. Now, after clinching titles at the China Open and WTA Finals, Swiatek ends the season with an 11-match winning streak. She had also managed to finish the year as number 1, for the second time in a row after losing out to Sabalenka after the US Open this year.
The four-time Grand Slam winner completely dominated on serve. She made Pegula run for each of her points at Estadio Paradisus. Chanda Rubin recently reflected on Swiatek’s incredible title run in Cancun after getting a minor hiccup in the first match of the tournament on the Inside-In Podcast.
She said, “To work your way into it, to start playing better tennis, and to go through that event playing better and better each match, through the conditions that the players had to deal with, It was rainy, and it was windy. At times, it seemed impossible to control this little yellow tennis ball. And yet Swiatek kept pushing and playing her game. I think for me, that was the most impressive part of it.”

Acceptance and adaptation have been the only way out for the top players featured in Cancun. Iga Swiatek chose to dominate with a score of 5-0 over her opponents in the season-ending tournament.
