However, recently, the former Russian tennis player opened up about the biggest reason that brings guilt to mothers.
As a mother herself, the 36-year-old dwelled on how anxiety is one of the biggest reasons why new mothers end up having mom guilt. Let’s take a look at the connection Sharapova draws between anxiety and mom guilt.
Maria Sharapova reveals the biggest reason behind mom’s guilt

Tennis moms carrying the guilt of not being with their children while trying to pursue their careers is something that is seen a lot in the tennis world. However, being away from your children is not the biggest reason that brings mom’s guilt to light. Recently, in an interview with Vogue, the five-time Grand Slam champion opened up about how it’s anxiety that brings the guilt out.
She said, “We live in an age of distraction, and when your mind is constantly working, you need to give it a break. De-stressing is not about having a specific thing, in my case. It’s about giving yourself permission to time out and not feeling guilty about it. This is a big challenge–mothers especially face this guilt. But, you need to find a way to be okay with it, because it is so important.”
Along with that, she also highlighted how it’s one of the biggest challenges that comes in the lives of mothers. But rather than struggling with anxiety, and letting guilt settle in, they should have time to themselves and not feel guilty about the same.

She has, however, previously discussed her thoughts on dealing with motherhood-related guilt. A few months ago, she recently described some of the most difficult parenting decisions she’s made since becoming a mother. Moreover, she explained how it fuels her motherly guilt trip.
When Sharapova revealed a tough parenting choice
A few months ago, the former world number one tennis player talked candidly in a podcast about how it makes her feel to leave her year-old son behind for work or other important obligations. She said, “I was just saying the guilt that you feel like leaving the house as a new mom going through my teens and my 20s and my early 30s, I got this down the tough girl I’m gonna be leaving my child. Oh no I leave the house and I think twice about it. What’s the purpose of my trip?”
