Madison Keys has had a brilliant start to the 2022 season. The American lifted the Adelaide International 2 title before the Australian Open. Further, the 26-year-old has continued her giant-killing run at the Grand Slam Down Under. Earlier today, she defeated 4th seeded Barbora Krejcikova of the Czech Republic in straight sets 6-3, 6-2 in a lop-sided encounter.

After her quarterfinals victory, the American was asked about her feelings after reaching her 5th slam semifinal in Melbourne. The 26-year-old said, “I think I’m gonna cry. You come out and everyone starts crying.”

At the Rod Laver Arena on Day 9 of the inaugural Grand Slam, the fourth-seeded Czech Republican could not sustain the pressure applied by her American opponent. Moreover, Madison Keys played to her strengths and dished out some big serves to gain an advantage in the first set. She served as many as 9 aces in the first set as against her Czech rival’s 1.

Further, the American did not concede a single break-point in the first set. Also, she managed to break Krejcikova’s serve once in the opening set. Madison Keys had an astonishing win percentage on her first serves. She managed to win 80% of her first-serve points in the first set as against her opponent’s 60%. Moreover, she hit 17 winners past Krejcikova to eventually take the first set 6-3.

Further, the second set panned out in a similar fashion. The American continued to apply pressure on the 4th seed’s serve and never let her settle in. She won as many as 3 breakpoints in the second set as against her opponent’s one. Madison Keys managed to win 57% of the receiving points in the second set. The American sealed the semifinals spot by taking the second set 6-2.

The American at the Australian Open 2022

Madison Keys has continued her giant-killing run at the tournament. Earlier, she had defeated eight-seeded P. Badosa of Spain in the fourth round. In the first round, she had defeated her fellow American and 11th seed Sofia Kenin.
