Mirra Andreeva isn’t letting her age or inexperience come in the way of her success on the tennis court. The rising WTA star reached the third round of Wimbledon after Czech 10th seed Barbora Krejcikova, her second-round opponent, forfeited due to injury. Andreeva was leading 6-3, 4-0 at that time. She is slated to face fellow Russian Anastasia Potapova in round 3.
After securing back-to-back grand slam third-round spots at the French Open and the ongoing Wimbledon, Andreeva appeared at the post-match press conference in her usual charming avatar. On being asked about the prospect of playing on the Centre Court of SW19 in the later rounds, a humble, yet ambitious Andreeva said, ?Before, I?d be scared to play on the Centre Court. But now I want to play.. If maybe the supervisors see this interview, I?ll tell straight away I want to play on a big court. At least Court 3, I will be super happy.?

There aren’t many in tennis history who were as promising as Mirra Andreeva at such a tender age. She made her grand slam debut at the French Open in May by getting the better of all her opponents in the qualifying rounds. In a similar fashion, the 16-year-old fended off challenges in the qualifying stages of Wimbledon, thereby becoming the youngest player to qualify for the main draw of Wimbledon since Coco Gauff in 2019.
Interestingly, it was Coco Gauff who ended her Roland Garros run this year. She was successful in displaying her prowess and grit, nonetheless.
It is just a matter of time before Mirra Andreeva becomes the next superstar of women’s tennis. And the way she has been playing, the day isn’t far when fans will be able to see her play at the Centre Court of the All England Club.
