One such emerging star is Ashlyn Krueger, the young American sensation who’s already turning heads. The beginning of Krueger’s run at the Grand Slam witnessed some dicey situations. She could not achieve anything in the first set of her first-round match against Zhang Shuai and lost it 6-0. But she demonstrated resilience that was one of a kind. The American star got her claws back on the match and ultimately won it 0-6, 6-1, 7-5. This made many ponder upon her skills which she proved yet again in the second round of her campaign.

Facing Mirra Andreeva in the second round of the US Open, the 20-year-old pulled out a sensational victory. She did not let Andreeva portray her exceptional skills and baffled a player ranked much higher than her in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4. The victory not only surprised the tennis enthusiasts but also exhilarated the American player herself. 

Speaking after the match, Krueger said, “I’m just so happy. I’m thankful to be in the third round… I was just enjoying it and having fun with this crowd today. It’s electric. I look forward to coming to the US Open every single year.” Continuing further, she recalled her childhood and her affection for the venue. “I’m just so happy to be back. So thankful and grateful. This is what you dream of as a tennis player. ” Krueger’s victory is also sensational due to the incredible performance that Andreeva has been demonstrating this season. 

Playing at the French Open, the 17-year-old Russian star advanced to the semi-finals. She also clinched the title at the Iasi Open and reached the quarterfinals at the Cincinnati Masters. As Krueger managed to baffle Andreeva, she is also making statements and is emerging as the dark horse of the tennis arena upon whom, the American tennis fans can surely rely for triumph. 

The 20-year-old has demonstrated immense potential and possesses the talent to enter the league for high-ranked players like Coco Gauff, Jessica Pegula, and Emma Navarro. But as she rises up the ranks, her success could not have been complete without her mother.

Ashlyn Krueger’s latest rise has been quite fascinating to watch for many. But every success story has a backdrop and a beginning and for Krueger, the beginning was ensured by her mother, Franchel Krueger. 

Speaking to Tennis.Com in 2021, Krueger reflected upon the role of her mother.  “My mom played college tennis and she started everything for me,” she said. Continuing further, she highlighted the other factors that fueled her journey. “It’s an independent sport and I’m a pretty independent person, so it’s a perfect combo for me. I just stuck with it and kept going. I don’t really even think I thought about anything more serious in tennis until I was about 14 or 15.”

As she continues to dazzle on the tennis courts, it would be interesting to see if her passion for the sport, amalgamated with her skills, can help her rise further and win big at the US Open.
