Ashleigh Barty faced Camila Giorgi in the third round today and many were expecting the 30th seed to give Barty a run for her money. But the Australian, given the impeccable form she’s in, absolutely demolished her opponent to go through to the fourth round.

World no.1 Ashleigh Barty is the favorite to win this year’s Australian Open, and she has started the tournament like she means business. Barty’s best result in the Australian Open was in 2020, when she reached the semi-final. But this year she is the number one seed and playing like one.

Barty won her match against Camila Giorgi 6-2,6-3 and the match lasted only an hour and one minute. En route to the next round, Barty broke a few records. The Australian has now won 58 consecutive service games and only lost 8 games so far in this year’s tournament.

Also, Barty is now unbeaten in 2022 and no one was able to break her serve in the previous 6 matches. Barty started 2022 with a double title win in Adelaide, where she won both the doubles and singles title. Barty also won all her matches without losing a set and the way she is playing, she must have her eyes on the grand prize.

Meanwhile, after the match, the 2-time Grand Slam champion revealed she got a little surprise from her first-ever tennis coach, Jim Joyce. Barty looked genuinely surprised and happy at the same time as she said, “Mate, what are you doing here?”

Barty faces a tough opponent in the next round

In the fourth round, Barty will face Amanda Anisimova from the United States, who caused a big upset earlier today. Amanda beat the defending champion, Naomi Osaka, in an outstanding match. Amanda won the match by 4-6, 6-3, 7-6, where she played a superb tie-break in the third set to win the match.

The upset won’t change Barty’s game plan though, as she looks ready to face anyone in the draw. Amanda is still unbeaten in 2022, so is Barty. One thing is for sure, the fourth-round match on Sunday will be a cracker of a match and one player will lose her unbeaten streak.
