Today, Ashleigh Barty, the no.1 player in the world, has reached her first-ever Australian Open final. She did it in a dominant fashion by beating Madison Keys of the United States in straight sets. We have seen this level of dominance only from Venus and Serena Williams in their prime. After reaching the final today, Barty again proved why she is no.1 in the world and the favorite for the title.

The Australian didn’t lose many games en route to the final (and dropped no sets at all). She almost created a new record, still held by Serena and Venus Williams at the Grand Slam tournaments.

Ashleigh Barty matches the dominance of Venus & Serena Williams

Barty is in devastating form at the moment. Today, in the semi-final, she absolutely destroyed the powerful Madison Keys. She won that match in 1 hour and 2 minutes by a 6-1,6-3 scoreline.

Meanwhile, Barty has only dropped 21 games so far in the whole tournament. Still, Serena Williams holds the record of losing the fewest games at a Grand Slam tournament. According to OptaAce, Serena lost only 16 games at the US Open 2013. Before that, she only lost 19 games in the 2012 US Open as well to reach the final. Also, Venus Williams lost only 20 games to reach the 2009 Wimbledon final.

Ash Barty is still unbeaten in 2022 after reaching her first Australian Open final today. She was already on a streak for the most consecutive service games held. Unfortunately, Amanda Anisimova broke her streak in the fourth round. Still, Barty’s dominance in this tournament is pretty impressive.

Now, Barty will face either Iga Swiatek or Danielle Collins in the final on Saturday. No matter who she faces in the final, she will be the favorite to win the title.
