Some names can never be forgotten. 1966 World Cup and Ballon D’or winner Sir Bobby Charlton recently passed away but his memories will live with us forever. Tennis legend Billie Jean King addressed the sad situation with an old and cherished memory of hers. King tweeted a very heartfelt message about her time with the late Sir Bobby Charlton. She even talked about her annual ritual at Wimbledon.

King had been friends with Sir Charlton for quite some time now. Even though he is no longer among us, it is safe to say that King and the whole world will remember him as the legend he was. This emotional tweet from King definitely captures a lot of sentiments in just a few words.?

The iconic tennis legend shared a special bond with the late soccer legend. Though their worlds revolved around different sports, their friendship transcended boundaries.

 

King revealed: “I have been fortunate to spend time with Sir Bobby Charlton almost every year in Wimbledon’s Royal Box.” This unlikely friendship was forged amidst the green courts of Wimbledon. Where both icons shared their passion for sport. Their annual rendezvous at Wimbledon was a testament to their enduring friendship.

With the passing of Sir Bobby Charlton, King expressed her condolences, saying: “My thoughts and prayers to his family.” She also reminisced about an interesting first experience with soccer.

Sir Bobby Charlton?s role in soccer

King fondly reminisced: “He played for England when the team won the World Cup in 1966, and this was my first experience watching World Cup football on the Telly.” The 1966 FIFA World Cup remains a historic moment in English football, and Charlton’s contribution to that triumph left an indelible mark.?

Charlton will be remembered as the complete player he was for his country, England. In his time at Manchester United, he gained a reputation for his exceptional attacking prowess, his impressive passing skills from the midfield, his powerful long-range shots, as well as his remarkable fitness and endurance. Charlton?s elder brother Jack Charlton died in 2020 after struggling with dementia. In the same year, the late Bobby Charlton was diagnosed with dementia as well. However, the cause of his death has not been announced yet.?

King?s tweet holds a lot of value for fans of tennis and soccer. She lost a friend and the world lost another legend. Sir Bobby Charlton was indeed a great person and player. May his soul rest in peace.?
