The 2024 Australian Open was all about Aryna Sabalenka who defended her 2023 crown by winning her career second grand slam title. The Belarusian beauty even came close to reaching rank 1 again but for now, Iga Swiatek defends her crown. To reach the top of the world is a feat that demands support and Sabalenka has had it in her family, especially her dad. Before Sergey Sabalenka passed away in 2019, he wanted to see his daughter win at least two Grand Slams by the time she was 25.

Having fulfilled that dream, Saba posted a tribute to her late father on social media, looking back in tears at the memory of Sergey Sabalenka, the man who introduced her to tennis.

It was a random day in 2004 when Aryna Sabalenka decided to take up tennis. Her father was driving her around in Minsk, Belarus when the two encountered tennis courts. A 6-year-old Saba was adamant about going to the court, and that’s when it all began. She took up tennis from that point, and her father supported her every step of the way.

He unfortunately passed away in 2019, when Saba had shown potential to reach the top of the WTA. She recently came across an Instagram post that created symbolic artwork where she was holding the Australian Open trophy with her father.

They added the caption, “Congratulations to @sabalenka_aryna on your Australian Open Win! ❤️💪”. Saba couldn’t help but shed a tear as she shared it on his Instagram story with the “😢” emoji.
