Aryna Sabalenka Reveals Destructive Acts From Her Childhood That Irked Her Parents -‘Were Always Getting Crazy Because..’

Breaking rackets is a habit of many players when a point does not go their way. Aryna Sabalenka is one of them. The Belarusian player has often been seen amid rage and broken her rackets. Several moments were seen during the time she was struggling with her service. She recently revealed how her parents felt about her breaking rackets in an interview after her second grand slam title.

Saba blazingly won the 2024 Australian Open. She did not drop a set during the entire tournament, with the only threat to her dominance coming in the semifinal. She also cleared the tournament without breaking any rackets.

Aryna Sabalenka reveals parents’ thoughts behind racket smashing

Sabalenka is a hot-headed player. The 25-year-old Belarusian beauty has been seen smashing her rackets many times on court, but the habit has come under control quite a bit. Speaking to Vogue after winning her second grand slam, Sabalenka looked back at the time she would have outbursts of frustration. Saba also shared what her parents thought of her smashing rackets. 

“My parents were always getting crazy because I was breaking the racquet. But the only thing they would say is they would never be pissed at me if you give it your all and you fight for every point. For them, it didn’t matter if I was losing or winning, it’s about giving it all. And not breaking the racquets. The only thing they got mad at me was breaking the racquets. Before I was 12 years old, I broke six or seven racquets, which is a lot.”

Although it irked them, they felt if she was giving each point her all, she was on a great path. However, her habit of breaking rackets during her teenage years continued into her adulthood.

Sabalenka’s most recent case of racket smash

One of her most recent moments of smashing her rackets came during the 2023 US Open. The Belarusian beauty ended up losing the final to Coco Gauff, and anger eventually took over her mind. As she went back to the locker room after their clash, she took a racket out of her bag, smashed it till it broke, and then went on to throw it in the dustbin. 

The locker room footage revealed later created a lot of buzz, and one fan even ended up buying the racket from her. While she has gotten the habit under control, sometimes she is unable to control it and lets a racket or two loose on the ground.
