Does the 'Sabadosa' bond prove that friendship can outshine rivalry in the world of sports?

“That’s why I think we have this amazing relationship because even if she wins 10 more slams, she’s going to be the same person,” said Paula Badosa, unveiling her true feelings about her BFF Aryna Sabalenka. Fans from all across the globe follow the Belarusian not only due to her on-court dominance but also because of her off-court relations. And Badosa is no exception. Both Badosa and Sabalenka never back down from appreciating each other in almost all their feats. As the Spaniard took some time off the competition to wander around the world, Sabalenka couldn’t hold herself from adding up to the fun vibes.

After sharing a commendable season, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Paula Badosa are currently on a refreshing break. Despite a brief breakup earlier in the year, the power couple couldn’t stay distant from each other, proving that their bond was stronger than ever. As the 2024 season came to an end, the pair decided to treat themselves to a romantic vacation. They first stopped in England to visit Aston Martin’s facility in Gaydon because of their mutual love for luxury cars. Soon after, they jetted off to Iceland to embrace the snowy landscapes and enjoying some much-needed downtime.

Badosa offered her fans a glimpse of the trip on Instagram, where she posted several pictures. She shared a picture-perfect moment of herself in a stylish winter outfit, captioning it, “Lost in the endless white 🤍.” She praised Tsitsipas’s photography skills, calling him her “favorite photographer.” Amid this romantic exchange, another character moved in. Her close friend and fellow tennis star Aryna Sabalenka left a sweet comment, saying, “Cutiee,” showing the enduring affection between the two players.

Earlier in the year, Badosa spoke about her friendship with Sabalenka during the Inside-In podcast on Tennis Channel. Reflecting on their bond, Badosa said, “We realized that we had very similar personalities. We get along very well, and we’re both very, very competitive. But at the same time, we know how to separate things, you know.” This close friendship has been a constant source of support for Badosa throughout her season.

Badosa’s final match of the season ended in a hard-fought loss to Iga Swiatek during the Billie Jean King Cup Finals. The Spanish star battled valiantly, winning a tight second-set tiebreaker, but Swiatek stormed through the third set to win 6-3, 6-7 (7), 6-1. With this victory, Poland secured a 2-0 lead over Spain, advancing to the quarterfinals against the Czech Republic.

Badosa and Sabalenka’s journey as friends began a few years ago during an exhibition match. Since then, they have become each other’s confidants, sharing the highs and lows of life as professional athletes. They have built a rare sisterhood on a circuit that demands constant travel. Sabalenka acknowledged their bond in a press conference at Stuttgart earlier this year, saying, “I love Paula [Badosa] very much. We have been friends for three or four years. She is an incredible person. It is very important to have friends on the circuit, so when you find someone who you feel is your soulmate, it is the best thing that can happen to you.”

This friendship continues to flourish despite the challenges of their non-traditional careers and the competitive environment they navigate daily. Despite being against each other on the courts many times, their connection still remains as strong as ever.
