The WTA Finals has been going on in full swing and the players have had the experience of playing in one of the most unique places, Cancun, Mexico. However, with the beautiful scenario that the place has to offer, there also come some disadvantages with it – for example, the extreme weather conditions. Making their way into the semi-finals of the tournament, Iga Swiatek went ahead to face Aryna Sabalenka for a place in the finals of the tournament. But things didn’t go exactly to plan.
Clearly, fate had some different plans for the top WTA players. As it stands, the highly-anticipated semi-final clash between the two powerhouses of tennis was called off after it became completely impossible to play, courtesy of the weather gods.

The WTA Finals semi-final clash between Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek in Cancun faced an unexpected delay as the weather conditions disrupted the proceedings. As the two tennis stars battled it out on the court, Swiatek held a 2-1 lead, indicating an intense and closely contested match.

However, the match’s momentum was halted as the weather conditions started to turn bad. After waiting for long the tournament organizers suspended the semi-final day. As a result, the showdown between Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek will now take place on Monday.

Thus, the match which was dealt with high anticipation was called to a close when extreme weather conditions did not allow the players to continue. This isn’t the first instance of inclement weather interrupting play in Cancun.
Rain delayed a group stage match between Aryna Sabalenka and Elena Rybakina
This hasn’t been the first time when the matches were called off at the WTA Finals. Sabalenka isn’t new to these things either; her group-stage clash against Elena Rybakina was also postponed as rain interrupted their match. In a completely one-sided match, Sabalenka won the first set 6-1 and showed sheer perfection in the second set as well.

While she took a comfortable 5-3 lead, rain interrupted play and the match was halted temporarily. However, the rain did not stop and eventually, the match had to be called off and scheduled for a later day. Needless to say, things have continued to be problematic at the prestigious WTA Tour-capping tournament, with even Martina Navratilova slamming the decision-making process behind the scenes. The semi-final clash at the WTA Finals was just another instance of how natural phenomena can grind things to a halt.
