Both players peaked in their respective careers when the other was their archrival. However, that didn’t stop the legendary American and the Danish star becoming best friend off the court. When the 23-time Grand Slam champion was going through a difficult time in 2011, they became closer than ever. Williams was suffering from injuries at the time.
Caroline Wozniacki once questioned Serena Williams
When Williams had just recovered from her injuries and was giving her best on the tennis court, back in 2015, the Danish tennis player was ranked number one in the world. In an interview from back then, the two stars discussed how being at the top is lonely and how fans and pundits want the number one ranked player to outperform everyone else. Williams abruptly changed the topic of the interview when she was discussing the rankings.
She said, “There are always people who aren’t going to like you… Look at Jesus; there are people who didn’t like him,” taking about how people will always continue to criticize and that no one is free, even deities.
Talking through this, Wozniacki questioned “Wait, are you comparing yourself to Jesus?” Following Wozniacki’s hilarious question, Serena reminded everyone that she was just being a christian and following a life that is more or less “christlike”.
