Even Serena Williams can't escape sleep troubles! What's your go-to solution for a good night's rest?

Being a superstar comes with its own advantages and disadvantages. Some like this attention 24×7, while others struggle to find some peace out of it, and hence, enormous stresses enter into their lives. At times, we see several big names suffer from insomnia and when it comes to big names, let us not forget that Serena Williams has also previously complained about the same. Recently, she asked fans for tips to resolve this issue. However, the reason for her lack of sleep was a bit different than others!

Speaking about her problems with sleeping, Williams once revealed, “I’m not a sleeper. I’m kind of like my dad, never slept much. I can really go off of five hours of sleep, but obviously, that’s not healthy.” Recently, she came up with another tweet expressing her worries about her sleeping issues. She sought help from her fans, saying, “Arghhh can’t quite sleep cause I’m annoyed. Can anyone relate? Tips plz?

According to a report previously published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Williams was among the 50-70 million American adults who have sleep or wakefulness disorder. Insufficient sleep can, at times, have major detrimental long-term effects on the body. It can increase the risk for chronic diseases like diabetes, hypertension, depression, obesity, and many more. What is the reason behind her lack of sleep, though?

During a prior interview, Williams cited, “(I’m) constantly on a natural high, high on life and happy, happy, happy and working.” She understands the importance of proper sleep in one’s life, but this is one of the reasons she felt that has caused a major hindrance in her sleeping. For athletes to play the game of their dreams, it’s very important to spend more time dreaming! What solutions did she look out for in the past to combat this issue?

At first, we need to understand, that sleep is not a luxury! It’s extremely crucial and chronic sleep deprivation is dangerous. For athletes. like Serena Williams this is something that should always stand on the top of her priority list. Throughout her career, she has faced many such annoying moments which perhaps have disrupted her daily sleep routine. For example, we all know how hard it was for her to move on from the defeat in the SF of the 2015 US Open. She was angry, sad, and disappointed with herself. Champions hate losing, and that was perhaps one of the most annoying moments in her life!

Her coach at that time was Patrick Mouratoglou, and he revealed after that loss, “She was depressed. She was really, really affected. She does everything with 100% of her heart so you are more disappointed when you don’t reach your goal.” This is a prime example of how annoyance can creep into the life of these champions with a move going slightly here and there. We don’t know exactly, what the main reason was for her annoyance in this case though. However, we know a person who may well have the right cure for her sleeping issues.

Sleeping is a bit underrated. People often forget its contribution to rejuvenating our bodies. However, Alexis Ohanian doesn’t fall among them. He knows how important it is for the body to have a proper sleep. According to him, the 2017 book, “Why We Sleep (Unlocking the Power of Sleep and Dreams)” shifted his entire mindset in this.

He explained, “This is a phenomenal book. Because it really goes into the science and the research behind why sleep is such an important part of our lives. What we’re seeing is the long-term health costs to not getting enough sleep [the book] solidified why it’s actually really important.The book is written by Matthew Walker, a professor of neuroscience and psychology and director of the University of California., Berkeley’s Center for Human Sleep Science. Even, Bill Gates is a big fan of this book.

Ohanian revealed that if he can’t get sleep between 6-8 hours every night, he knows he has to change something in his daily life or come up with a better routine. Williams had once tried using a sleeping aid by the name, ‘Sleep Sheets’ to help her get a better sleep. Now, perhaps she needs to look at her husband’s guide too, to fight this major issue in her life!
