The 2022 US Open was one of the most eventful editions of the tournament. It saw the last of Serena Williams on the court, as the American tennis legend called time on her illustrious career afterward. Nonetheless, she put on a magnificent display in the three matches she played in Flushing Meadows. Among them was the match against Anett Kontaveit, who was the second seed in that tournament. Recently, the Estonian former tennis player made a wonderful announcement with regard to her personal life.

Despite being at the peak of her career, Kontaveit announced a shock retirement last year. She played her final match at the 2023 Wimbledon Championships, where she reached the second round. Just 27 back then, Kontaveit was suffering from back issues that led her to quit the sport early. Moreover, she also wanted to focus on her personal life and made a heartfelt revelation earlier today.

She took to her official Instagram handle and shared a picture of her with her fiance, Brent Lepistu. In the picture, Kontaveit could be seen showing off her baby bump and announcing her pregnancy, saying, “New family member on the way.” Kontaveit and her fiance looked dapper in all-black outfits.

Kontaveit was Serena Williams’ last victim as the American legend defeated her in the second round of the 2022 US Open. The match had a nail-biting finish, with Williams coming out on top in front of her home crowd. The match was also significant from Kontaveit’s career point of view as it started her downfall as she eventually retired. With her career put behind, the relationship between Kontaveit and Lepitsu grew leaps and bounds.

Anett Kontaveit’s emotional message for her fiance

The two started dating back in 2022 but kept their personal life away from the public lens. Kontaveit and Lepitsu seldom shared pictures together on social media. But as her footballer fiance celebrated his 30th birthday, the former WTA star stunned fans by sharing a glimpse of her personal life.

She took to social media and shared some pictures with Brent with a heartfelt message, “Happy 30th, bby @brentlep. My life’s better with u in it.” With the latest pregnancy announcement, it shows how the two have grown in their relationship.

However, as glorious as her personal life may sound, Kontaveit had a disappointing end to her tennis career. She was ravaged by injuries and loss of form, which eventually led her to quit the sport when she was just 27. As of now, she’s not interested in coming back to the sport as a coach either.
