Is Venus Williams‘ retirement a certainty, or is she still eager to create unforgettable moments on the court? Even though Williams hasn’t been on the court in seven months, the 44-year-old is very active of of it. She is actively involved in a number of endeavors outside of tennis, such as growing her business and writing. As speculation about her future intensifies, Venus has asserted that she’s “not done with the racket yet.”
On October 27, Venus shared two Instagram stories from the tennis court. In there, she demonstrated her trademark down the line backhand shot in one video, which she captioned “backhand down the line on point.” In the next story, she posted her commented, “beautiful courts,” in another post from the court. A pure hint at her return on court, isn’t it?
Point to note: After sustaining a knee injury at Wimbledon 2023, Venus took a break from tennis to focus on her recovery following the North American hard-court swing. Williams last appeared at the Miami Open earlier this year, where she faced a first-round defeat against Diana Shnaider in straight sets.

Venus openly shared her thoughts on retirement earlier this year, expressing her conflicted feelings about the change. In a humorous moment during a recent interview, Venus admitted that Serena’s well-publicized retirement in 2022 caused confusion and unexpectedly complicated her own path. She stated, “As a moment gets closer. Serena ruined it for me cause as soon as she retired, everybody thought I retire, and sometimes they even think we’re twins.”

For Venus Williams, the thought of leaving tennis once seemed emotionally overwhelming. She reflected, “I always thought I would cry when I had to retire because it’s all you know. You spend your whole life just programming your mind every single day…thinking about it, dreaming about it.” However, she came to realize that she wouldn’t shed tears. Venus expressed peace with the idea, adding, “Now I realize that I won’t cry because I’ve definitely given everything to this sport,” Venus said with confidence.

The Tennis Hall of Fame unveiled new entrants earlier this month, including Maria Sharapova, and the Bryan Brothers. Patrick McEnroe replied that Venus Williams needs to be counted among these greats as well. At the Tennis Channel Inside-In podcast, he stated, “You know, Roger, Serena, don’t forget about Ash Barty, by the way. When you got Murray and now Rafa, will Venus ever retire? You know, her place is pretty secure in the Hall of Fame as well. So, it’s exciting.”
