The 19-year-old tennis star is having a rollercoaster of a season; having had an indifferent outing until Roland Garros. After reaching the quarterfinals of the French Open, she is now turning her attention to Wimbledon. And as she is getting ready for the grass-court Grand Slam, she recalled the memorable meeting with the 43-year-old tennis star four years ago. The time when she defeated her and created history as a 15-year-old.
Recently, in a press conference after the first-round victory at Eastbourne International, Gauff detailed how SW19 is quite special for her and that she can never forget the memorable victory that the tournament gave her.
She said, “But I guess Wimbledon. I mean, it’s always going to be a special tournament for me, considering how I started my career, I guess. So I think every time I play, I just feel a bit of buzz and excitement. I think that’s what makes me excited every year to go play.”

Similarly, a few months ago, she also recalled meeting the seven-time Grand Slam champion at the net after beating her at the 2019 Wimbledon.

Notably, she mentioned that as the two athletes shook hands at the net, her hands were trembling and that she held onto Williams’ hand for several seconds. Her nervousness was understandable considering how the 19-year-old American tennis star has openly acknowledged the Williams sisters’ influence on her decision to take up tennis as a sport.
