Peyton Stearns recently won over fans with her heartwarming gesture at the Australian Open as she rushed an ice towel to a fainted ball kid. The tournament is infamous for its heat. January is the month of Summer in the country and the weather conditions are not kind to the players. However, players are not the only ones who are affected by the damning sun of the summer.

Due to the heat in Melbourne during the first slam, the organizers of Tennis Australia have employed many measures to ensure the staff and the players are able to beat the heat. But they didn’t work this time.

There have been many cases of players experiencing sickness due to the heat in Australia. But they aren’t the only ones on the court and not the only ones affected by the heat. During the bout between Peyton Stearns and Daria Kastkina, a ball kid fainted due to heat sickness. The match was stopped for a bit as officials went up to check on the kid.

Stearns, who showed concern, ran to get an ice towel to help the child cool down. A video of the incident was shared by a user who is a fan of WTA with the caption, “Peyton ran an ice towel to one of the ball kids who had to sit down due to the heat sickness.”

Fortunately, the ball kid managed to recover properly, and the match continued. Stearns, who managed to win the second set, went on to lose the match against Kasatkina.

Tennis Australia has added retractable roofs in the various stadiums to ensure players have no trouble in the heat. However, some have still been affected by the damning heat. While the heat is getting to many, Brad Gilbert, coach of Coco Gauff also noted a challenge for the players.

Coco Gauff’s coach points out a new challenge

Unsurprisingly, the heat presented players with great difficulty. Looking at how the players reacted to it, Brad Gilbert, who is Coco Gauff’s coach, recently took to X to express his concern. He wrote, “Why you seeing some players struggling today temps in low 80’s, the warmest day since I have been here for 8 days, normally low 80’s in Melbourne is win, can easily be high 90’s for a lot of days @AustralianOpen.

Gilbert believes the heat, even though not that high, is affecting players more than the higher temperatures in the past few years. It is a difficulty he believes needs to be dealt with soon. While he believes the heat is low, many are facing problems.c
