On their journey to be one of the top women athletes, a day came when they got a glorious chance to meet the legend, Billie Jean King. Narrating to the fans how their first meeting looked like, King recently shared an update on social media.

Looking back to the year 1988 to this day, two future tennis legends crossed paths for the first time at a Domino’s Pizza World Team Tennis clinic in Long Beach, California. Billie Jean King, already a tennis legend at the time, met Venus and Serena Williams who were just young girls building their potential to go long in the world of tennis.

Recently, Billie Jean King took time to remember the glorious moment when the Williams sisters met her for the first time. Sharing the moment with her followers, she shared a picture of the historical meeting on X. “36 years ago today, on April 30, 1988, I first met Venus Williams and Serena Williams at a Domino’s Pizza WorldTeamTennis clinic in Long Beach, CA. They were as impressive then as they are now,” King wrote, expressing her heartfelt thoughts about the two.

Ever since they met and continued to be on their respective journey of bringing a change in the image of women in sports, the Williams sisters as well as King have changed the image of tennis. As King recalls the moment 36 years later, it not only acts as a regular date to be marked but a moment that goes down in history books.

Billie Jean King has nothing but praise for the younger Williams

The amazing era led by Serena Williams continued to flourish throughout her journey as a player and ahead. Back in 2022, Billie Jean King took a moment to share the stage with the legendary player and therefore made an adorable statement, combining all her achievements together.

“We forget that Serena won her first singles title way back in ‘99 when she was 17 years old,” King said, marking the moment where it all started. Along with that she also counted other impacts made by Serena’s legacy. “So, she’s been on the scene for a long, long time, and she’s done a lot for women. Plus, she has always wanted to give back to women, especially to women of color,” she added.

With this statement, King already predicted a time when Serena would take her place to create a huge social impact to pave the way for women with dreams to touch the skies in the world of sports.
