Taylor Townsend was a player to watch out for on the juniors circuit. At only 15, she lifted the Australian Open girls’ singles title, defeating Yulia Putintseva in the summit clash. Further, at the same tournament, she also won the girls’ doubles title, partnering with compatriot Gabrielle Andrews.

Subsequently, she rose to the top spot in the ITF junior rankings. She continued her impressive run that year, winning the girls’ doubles titles at Wimbledon and the US Open.

Further, Townsend turned pro in December 2012. However, she couldn’t replicate the form that she displayed on the junior circuit. Townsend’s best result in the Grand Slams in women’s singles has been a fourth-round appearance at the US Open. Recently, she won the ITF tournament in Charleston. After her impressive feat, her compatriot, Jessica Pegula, congratulated her. Subsequently, Townsend reacted to the wonderful gesture by Pegula.

After Townsend lifted the title, Pegula took to Twitter and congratulated her, saying, “Ok [Taylor Townsend] already back winning. Let’s go. First pro title as a mama!!” Further, Townsend thanked Pegula for her kind words and replied, “[Love] you Jess!!!”

Townsend gave birth to her son, Adyn Aubrey in March 2021. Her final tournament before turning a mother was at the US Open in 2020. In that tournament, she reached the women’s doubles semifinals. However, in the singles, she bowed out in the opening round.

Talking about the tournament and joining the mothers’ club, Townsend said, “It was strange being so close to the final with Asia and knowing I’ll soon be part of that category. I actually think for me being part of this US Open at this time was so great for me to see it’s possible, to balance professional goals and aspirations with motherhood and raising a child.”

Townsend made a comeback on the women’s circuit last month after giving birth to her son. Her title in Charleston was a dream comeback for her. Moreover, she also set an example with her title victory, that with grit and determination, no task is hard to achieve.
