It has been a difficult week for the American tennis sensation, Coco Gauff. With rising expectations from home fans, the 19-year-old has made it to the fourth round at the US Open. However, it hasn’t been the smoothest of rides for the local favorite. In the opening-round clash against Laura Siegemund, she was pushed to three sets in a match lasting nearly three hours. Further, Gauff faced a similar scenario in her third-round match as well. Nonetheless, she is still alive in the tournament and in great spirits, as she gave her Serena Williams vibes after her recent match.

The world number 6 has been hugely inspired by Serena. Additionally, she has also drawn comparisons with her idol from tennis fans. Here’s what she said.

Despite the path being tough, the American star has fought like a warrior and has come out on top. After showcasing her mettle for over two hours in her third-round match, Gauff had a special mention of her fighting spirit.

During the post-match interview after her third-round victory, Gauff said, “If anything, the three setters show everybody else that I’m not going down without a fight.” Subsequently, Gauff shared her words on her official Twitter handle and revealed, “Never stop fighting.”

Her words reminded everyone of Serena Williams, who has overcome all odds to have an illustrious tennis career. Be it injuries or motherhood, Serena has never looked back and always made a strong comeback.

Despite oozing confidence like the Queen of the Court, Gauff revealed why she wasn’t interested in emulating the American legend.

Gauff makes a huge statement about Serena

During a recent interview, the 19-year-old opened up about her idol being one-of-a-kind and why she wouldn’t follow in Serena’s footsteps. Talking about it, she said, “I don’t think anybody will [take Serena’s mantle] because she’s just one of a kind. But I will try my best to be the best Coco. It does put a little bit less pressure in a way because she is the greatest player of all time.”

With Serena retiring last year, it is up to Gauff to deliver it for the local fans. She has received massive home support so far, as people have turned out in large numbers to cheer for her. Up next, Gauff faces the challenge of former World Number 1 and comeback queen, Caroline Wozniacki. It will be a battle of youth vs. experience as the match is surely set to give goosebumps to tennis fans.
