Nineteen-year-old Cori “Coco” Gauff is certainly one of the most promising talents on the WTA tour today. The American teenager caught the attention of fans and pundits alike with her impeccable shot-making skills ever since she burst onto the scene. Who can forget her fairytale run at Wimbledon in 2019, where she caused one of the greatest upsets in the competition’s history by defeating the legendary Venus Williams as a 15-year-old? It was this victory against the veteran that became her breakthrough match and catapulted her to stardom.
Gauff, however, has never reached the later rounds of Wimbledon in her career, with 2 appearances at the round of 16 being her best performances at the event. Ahead of Wimbledon 2023, she has roped in a new coach with hopes of bettering her fortunes at the All England Club.

The 2022 French Open finalist did not have a great start to her grass-court campaign this season. Right ahead of Wimbledon, which is slated to begin on the 3rd of July, Coco Gauff has decided to join hands with former Spanish player and coach Pere Riba, reports Marca. Gauff, currently placed at number 7 on the WTA rankings, has been without a coach for some time now after parting ways with her previous coach Diego Moyano. Riba will begin his stint as Coco Gauff’s coach with the Rothesay International Eastbourne Tennis Tournament starting tomorrow, the last event in the lead-up to the all-important Wimbledon.
Pere Riba has been a successful mentor and coach to young Chinese WTA star Qinwen Zheng for the last 2 years. He will look to bring in all his expertise and try to achieve the success that Gauff has been missing at Wimbledon.

Gauff will hope to end her patchy run of form at Wimbledon
After being ousted from the quarterfinals of the French Open by eventual champion and world number 1 Iga Swiatek in straight sets, Coco Gauff started her grass court campaign at the Bett1Open Grass Court Championships in Berlin. She didn’t get the results she would have expected. Ekaterina Alexandrova handed her an embarrassing defeat in the second round, with a thumping 6-4, 6-0 victory against the 5th seed.
Coco Gauff unexpectedly announced her split with her previous coach Diego Moyano before the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart in April this year. She will look to put that behind her and focus on her new partnership with Pere Riba heading into Wimbledon. Can Gauff end her poor record at Wimbledon? Let us know in the comments.
